My Entrepreneurship Story

Annually throughout elementary, the school had a fundraiser project it would do. Each kid would go home with order sheets and a book full of products that we would sell in order to help the school raise money. For us children, what we wanted was the prizes promised to us for selling certain levels dollar amount of products. There were different levels of prizes; the more we sold the higher the level of prize we qualified for. This also meant for the better prizes we had to sell more. That was my first introduction to entrepreneurship.

I enrolled in ENT 3003 (1) because it is a required class of my degree in Business, (2) because I plan to one day own my own business, and (3) to learn the entrepreneurship process. What I hope to get out of this class is the ability to recognize & evaluate opportunities and learn how to develop a successful business concept. I hope to be able to use the skills I learn in this class, in my professional and personal life.

  1. Wisheka,
My elementary school had a similar fundraiser. While we were not selling from a product booklet, we were selling chocolate bars to raise money. This meant that we had to work alongside our parents to perform door-to-door sales (because we were minors). For us, the prize was merely to receive recognition in front of the other students for having the highest number of sales. I still remember feeling worried when I would not reach my weekly sales goal. I also recall unknowingly “strategizing”, brainstorming about the locations where I could go to sell the most chocolates. Until I read your post, it had not occurred to me that this was another time in which I was introduced to entrepreneurship. All in all, it is evident that there is an entrepreneur in all of us.
